Asking permission—Is it ok if I sit here?

Making requests—Could you send it to me by tomorrow?ဆုိတဲ့ ပုံစံမ်ားသည္ စကားေျပာတဲ့အခါ အလြန္အသုံးဝင္ေသာ ပုံစံမ်ားျဖစ္ပါတယ္။

ဒါေၾကာင့္ “Asking Permission, Making Requests” ႏွင့္ပတ္သက္ျပီး Formal အသုံးျပဳပုံ၊ Informal အသုံးျပဳပုံမ်ား ေလ့လာၾကရေအာင္ပါ။

1. Asking for permission:
Permission ဆုိတာက ျမန္မာလို အဓိပၸာယ္က “ခြင့္ေတာင္းျခင္း” ပါ။

အဂၤလိပ္စကားေျပာရာမွာ Permission and Requests အတြက္ဆုိရင္
Modal Verb မ်ားျဖစ္တဲ့ Can, Could, May ႏွင့္ Might တုိ႔ကုိ အသုံးမ်ားပါတယ္။ သုိ႔ေသာ္ Might ကုိေတာ့ သုံးခဲပါတယ္။ ေအာက္က ဥပမာတုိ႔ကုိေလ့လာၾကည့္ပါ။

• Can I borrow your phone to make a call?
• Could I leave half an hour early today?
• May I have a look around?

ကြ်န္ေတာ္တုိ႔အေနျဖင့္ မည့္သည့္ Helping Verb ကိုသုံးသည္ျဖစ္ေစ အဓိပၸာယ္ကေတာ့ အတူတူပဲျဖစ္ပါတယ္။ ဒါေပမဲ့ သူတို႔တစ္ခုစီမွာ ဘာသာစကားအသုံးျပဳပုံရဲ့ Degree (သုိ႔မဟုတ္) Register ဆုိတဲ့ သတ္မွတ္ခ်က္ေတြရွိေနပါတယ္။ 

ေယဘုယ်အားျဖင့္ဆုိရင္ Degree သုံးမ်ဳိးနဲ႔ ခြဲျခားၾကည့္မယ္ဆုိရင္

May အသုံးက Formal အျဖစ္ဆုံးအဆင့္ (the most formal)
Could အသုံးက အလယ္အလတ္အဆင့္ (in the middle) ႏွင့္

Can အသုံးက the least formal ပါပဲ(ဆုိလိုတာက ျဖစ္ႏုိင္ရင္ Permission မွာ Can အသုံးျပဳမႈကုိ ေရွာင္သင့္တယ္လုိ႔ဆုိတာပါ။)

Might အသုံးကေတာ့ အခုေနာက္ပုိင္း မသုံးသေလာက္ပါပဲ။
ဒါေၾကာင့္ Permission မွာ May ႏွင့္ Could ကုိ အဓိကထား အသုံးျပဳသင့္ပါတယ္။.

2. Making a request:
can, could, will or would တုိ႔ကုိ အသုံးျပဳျခင္း

ဥပမာ :
• Can you help me with something?
• Could you tell me more about it?
• Will you get me a coffee?

အထက္က Permission မွာလုိပဲ အဓိပၸာယ္ကေတာ့ အတူတူပါပဲ။ ဒါေပမဲ့ သူတို႔တစ္ခုစီမွာ ဘာသာစကားအသုံးျပဳပုံရဲ့ Degree (သုိ႔မဟုတ္) Register ဆုိတဲ့ သတ္မွတ္ခ်က္ေတြရွိေနပါတယ္။ ေယဘုယ်အားျဖင့္ဆုိရင္ Degree သုံးမ်ဳိးနဲ႔ ခြဲျခားၾကည့္မယ္ဆုိရင္

Will - very informal ( Will ကုိ Informal အသုံးေတြမွာ အမ်ားဆုံးသုံးပါတယ္။)
Can - neutral—neither formal nor informal (Can ကုိေတာ့ Formal မွာေရာ၊ Informal ႏွစ္မ်ဳိးစလုံးမွာ အသုံးျပဳႏုိင္ပါတယ္။)

Could - more formal (Could ကုိေတာ့ Formal မွာ ပုိျပီး အသုံးမ်ားပါတယ္။)
Would - very formal ( Formal ကုိ သီးသန္႔သုံးရင္ေတာ့ Would ကုိသုံးတာ ပုိသင့္ေတာ္ပါတယ္။)

ဒီ Modal Verb ေလးမ်ဳိးစလုံးကုိ Making Requests မွာ အမ်ားဆုံး သုံးၾကပါတယ္။
3. ေအာက္ပါ နမူနာအသုံးျပဳပုံမ်ားကေတာ့ Permission သုိ႔မဟုတ္ Making requests ေတြအတြက္ ေတြ႔ရတတ္တဲ့ အသုံးျပဳပုံမ်ားပါ။

• Is it alright if I wait here? (permission)
• Would it bother you if I brought a friend with me? (permission)
• Do you mind giving me a hand for a moment? (request)
• I was wondering if you could get it finished before the end of the week? (request)

အထက္ပါအသုံးအႏႈန္းမ်ားကုိ ၾကည့္လုိက္ေတာ Permission အတြက္ေရာ၊ Request အတြက္ေရာ သုံးရာမွာ အျခား Helping Verb ေတြျဖစ္တဲ့ (be,do) တုိ႔ကုိ သုံးထားတာ သတိထားမိမွာပါ။ 

Permission အတြက္ေရာ၊ Request အတြက္ေရာသုံးရာမွာ Modal Verb မ်ားျဖစ္တဲ့ Can, Could, Will, Would, May, Might တုိ႔ကုိ သုံးသည္ျဖစ္ေစ၊ Verb to be ျဖစ္တဲ့ Is, are တုိ႔ကုိသုံးသည္ျဖစ္ေစ၊ Verb to do ျဖစ္တဲ့ Do, Does တုိ႔ကုိျဖစ္ေစ အဓိပၸာယ္ကေတာ့ အတူတူပဲျဖစ္ပါတယ္။ 

Verb to be ႏွင့္ Verb to do တုိ႔က Informal ဆန္လြန္းပါတယ္။ အသုံးအႏႈန္းက ရုိးရွင္းတယ္။
တုိက္ရုိက္(ဒဲ့)ဆန္လြန္းတယ္။ ျမန္မာလူမႈပတ္ဝန္းက်င္နဲ႔ ေျပာရရင္ ကုိယ္နဲ႔ လည္ပင္းဖက္ေပါင္းေနတဲ့ ေျပာမနာ၊ ဆုိမနာ သူငယ္ခ်င္းေတြနဲ႔ ေျပာတဲ့အခါ သုံးတာမ်ဳိးပါ။ ကုိယ့္ထက္ အသက္အရြယ္ၾကီးတဲ့သူေတြ၊ အျခားလူစိမ္းေတြနဲ႔ အဲလုိ တုိက္ရုိက္ (ဒဲ့) ေျပာရင္ ရုိင္းရာက်ပါတယ္။ အဲဒါမ်ဳိးကုိ Informal ဆန္တယ္လုိ႔ေျပာတာပါ။ ဒါေၾကာင့္ Permission အတြက္ေရာ၊ Request အတြက္ေရာသုံးရာမွာ Verb to be ႏွင့္ Verb to do အသုံးေတြက အရင္းအႏွီးဆုံး မိတ္ေဆြ သူငယ္ခ်င္းမ်ားနဲ႔ ဆက္ဆံေျပာဆုိတဲ့အခါမ်ဳိးမွာသာ သုံးသင့္ပါတယ္။

ကုိယ္နဲ႔ သိကြ်မ္းဖူးျခင္းမရွိတဲ့သူေတြ၊ အသက္အရြယ္ၾကီးသူေတြႏွင့္ အျခားအျခားေသာ စိမ္းတဲ့သူမ်ဳိးနဲ႔ Permission အတြက္ျဖစ္ျဖစ္၊ Request အတြက္ျဖစ္ျဖစ္သုံးရာမွ ယဥ္ေက်းေသာ အသုံးအႏႈန္း (Formal) ဆန္ေသာ၊ တစ္နည္းအားျဖင့္ သြယ္ဝုိက္ေျပာဆုိေသာ (Indirect Usage) ျဖစ္တဲ့ Modal Verb ေတြထဲမွ Could အသုံးနဲ႔ Would အသုံးတုိ႔ကုိ သုံးသင့္ပါတယ္။

4. Giving permission or replying to requests
ေအာက္ပါ စကားလုံးေတြကေတာ့ Permission and Request အတြက္ ျပန္လည္တုံ႔ျပန္တဲ့၊ ျပန္လည္ေျဖၾကားတဲ့ အသုံးမ်ား ျဖစ္ပါတယ္။ ဒီေနရာမွာလည္း Permission and Request အတြက္ေမးတာက Formal ပုံစံဆုိရင္ ျပန္ေျဖတဲ့အခါ၊ ျပန္ေျပာတဲ့အခါ Formal ပုံစံကုိပဲ သုံးသင့္ပါတယ္။ Informal အေမးဆုိလည္း Informal အေျဖပဲျဖစ္သင့္ပါတယ္။

ေအာက္ပါ Formal replies နဲ႕ Informal replies မ်ားကုိ ေလ့လာျပီး ေလ့က်င့္ခန္းမ်ားကုိ ေျဖၾကည့္ပါ။
